The British audience is all set to witness a Championship (NEVER SEEN BEFORE) in 2019. I am talking about the eRacing competition, where virtual reality will be set LIVE for action! Competition is scheduled for the coming February, where about thousands of the people would participate in the race in a 3D environment.
There will be a bike, and a turbo trainer along, and the
Zwift App which is currently used by more than 500,000 users around the world.
Jonathan Rigby, the director of the British Cycling said that the game would inspire people to be more active in life, and it will also spread the importance of being fit. When we talk about eSports, cycling stands a special place as it suits well with more audience and just for the fun of it!
So, what’s the format of the eRacing Championship?
The World Cycling Championship will have a series of qualifying rounds, that will guide towards a live final event. All the top-ranked riders from each gender and age category will proceed to the final round. The finalists will be competing for their corresponding nations, with a few short races, a time trial, and the ultimate elimination round.
Apart from spreading the importance of fitness, it’s one of the smart take-ups in the wild tech market.
Well, this hasn’t been the only attempt. In the month of September, the cycling governing body UCI had put the idea of eSports Championship. Whereas this year Indoor Cycling Race has a prize pot of $50K.
On the other side, many cycle enthusiasts have achieved pro ranks on the Zwift app. On this application, the user has to use the turbo trainer’s data for building up their online avatar.
In 2016, one of the former marathon runners Leah Thorvilson beat about 1200 cyclists on the Zwift Academy Program. After the win, she also got to sign a contract with the Canyon-SRAM team.
The same app also created the Innsbruck World Race Course that helped Dani Rowe practise the game at home, before she travelled to Austria.
Britain has already signed a 2-years partnership deal with the Zwift app with all the necessary training programs for the strong 146K members registered for the game.
